She nudged me gently.
Wake up.
I ignored her.
It was too early.
She nudged me again.
Wake up.
I agreed, but kept my eyes closed anyways.
Good morning.
Slowly, my ears opened.
I could hear the birds making music, the loud bus rolling by, a crackle of leaves under a stranger’s foot steps.
I wondered where the stranger headed in the wee hours.
I closed my eyes tighter.
The stillness engulfed the room like the stillness during an opera concert – between classical notes.
Open your eyes.
I nodded in agreement, but still fought back silently by keeping my eyelids half-closed.
I was so sleepy.
Good morning.
I peered outside the window.
A great, big sky stared at me — decorated with gray clouds that hung like curtains over the city.
In the distance, the first crack of sunrise slowly appeared.
I smiled.
My eyes opened more.
I opened the window, eager now to feel the cool air touch my skin.
Finally, you’re awake.
This time the voice sounded tired and faint.
I didn’t understand why.
I was just beginning to enjoy the morning.
I’m leaving!
I was confused. Why was she suddenly leaving me?
It’s not sudden!
This was true.
I didn’t realize how long she had been with me.
Ahh, you took me for granted.
This was true, too.
Still, I asked her why she had to go.
She nudged me gently.
My time is up.
Afternoon has arrived.
I am the morning.
XOXO,
Bofta
